Raindrops Keep Fall- OW!

While it's usually very dry around the Phoenix area, we have a little thing called the Monsoon Season here that starts in June and goes through September on average. That brings the normal high heat along with higher humidity and some pretty spectacular storms.
Over the past few years, those storms have generally brought nothing but a lot of dry thunder and lightning with an occasional shower, but this past weekend showed us that this year's monsoon means business. We got a couple of inches of rain within a three or four hour period.

Now, the ground around here isn't designed for heavy rains, so when we get slammed like this, the water sits around for a bit before finally, slowly soaking into the ground.

Same with the roads. For the most part, they simply weren't built with very good drainage. We had a couple of small rivers flowing down a major street right outside our back yard. One thing you find out very quickly around here is that people in the Phoenix area have no idea how to drive in the rain.
Surprisingly there were no accidents near us even after the power went out for about an hour which also, of course, took out the traffic lights.
