We got a call from our pest control people today. Sure enough, those little flitting things are Springtails, not fleas, which explains why they haven't bitten us. Still not sure where they came from, but they did say to continue using our Dawn and water concoction as that's about the best stuff around to get rid of them.

And that comes from a professional who could charge us lots to put down extra chemicals to rid us of the little buggers.

Great news about the (non) fleas. Now that you have experience, is there any way for the rest of us to distinguish between fleas and Springtails?

Basically, if you see a bunch of little bugs hopping about looking like fleas, stand amongst them. If they bite you, they're probably fleas. If they don't, then they're probably Springtails.
