The rare and not normally spectacular Aurigid meteor shower was supposed to put on a display this morning visible mostly in the western United States including Arizona. It's peak, at 4:37am on this Saturday, September 1, 2007, came and went just a few minutes ago, and I was outside watching the skies.

Watching the skies laugh heartily at the Phoenix area.

As is usualy for such celestial events, especially the once-in-a-lifetime variety like this one, our ever sunny city was overcast.

The local newspaper's website had a big feature on their front page yesterday asking readers to send them their photos of the shower. This morning, as reality set in apparently, they relegated that story to the backwaters of their website. At least they finally got something right.
