A Tragedy in Connecticut

I come from a small town in Connecticut called Plainville. There are a few families there that have helped shape the town over the past few decades. One of those families is the Petits.

This morning I learned of the brutal beating of Dr. William Petit, Jr., and the murders of his wife and two daughters along with the arson burning of his house. They lived in nearby Cheshire, but Dr. Petit was still very much connected with my little hometown as is his family, including one of his sisters with whom I graduated from Plainville High School lo those many years ago.

While I don't know Dr. Petit's sister, Johanna, or their family all that well, I do know these are good people, and I'll be keeping them in my thoughts.

Edited to add:
As unbelieveably sick as this act was, evidence has surfaced that the mother in this family was strangled to death after being forced to withdraw $15,000 from her bank account, and the daughters died of smoke inhalation meaning they were burned to death in their home. And one of the girls may have been raped.

The bastards who did this -- these monsters -- may they die slow and painful deaths. I don't like saying that about anyone, but these two deserve it.

It's been awhile since I've visited your blog, Steve (been that kind of a summer) and so I'm late learning of this. I'm shocked and deeply saddened by what happened to this family, your friends. I'm very sorry.

It's just so very strange to see something like this tragedy coming out of my little hometown so many miles away with family of people I've known since childhood. I mean, not close friends, but we grew up together and I've chatted with the family when visiting the old homestead.

Very unsettling, but at least justice appears to be being served in this case, or as much justice as there can be.
