Surgery for Stevie

We visited Stevie at the vet last night and met the man who will be her surgeon today. Seems she has something rarely seen in a cat, a torn Achilles tendon on her right rear leg.

As you can see, it's been stitched up to keep the bleeding in check and it's a pretty badly bruised area. She's limping around, but still able to get around.
If we were to do nothing but treat the wound, we'd eventually be looking toward surgery to fuse her ankle or amputate her leg, so we've decided instead to go ahead with the repair surgery. She may lose a little height on her jumps, but she'll recover and be able to use her leg properly to chase her sister all over the house at 2:00 in the morning. The cast will be changed every week and her condition evaluated at each visit.
She'll be in a soft cast for a few weeks after the surgery and will need to be in some sort of isolation during that time which will probably be in our de facto isolation ward, otherwise known as my home office. The surgeon suggests we might want to consider having Stevie's sister, Lindsay, in isolation with her to make the transition back into the household a little smoother and make her recovery easier to bear.

She's not exactly the happiest of campers, but she is making new friends and gaining a new fan club at the clinic. She likes to give head butts and has been doing so with anyone who gets close enough. The vet techs are loving that from what they've been telling us.
Stevie's in the care of the same clinic that brought Cagney back to us from the brink of death, so we're confident that she'll be back home as promised tomorrow night. I'll keep you updated.
