We're Grandparents!

When we were preparing to move into our new house earlier this year, a cat showed up on our doorstep looking a bit world-weary.
Turns out she was also preggers.
Our former newest addition to our household, Billie, has given birth to two seemingly healthy balls of fur (yes, Leslie, you were right -- she was pregnant!).
The new furkids appear to be doing well. They're both nursing. mewing, and moving about. One of them looks like it might even be opening its eyes, but we're not positive about that. Billie seems to be pretty good at this whole motherhood thing with her nursing and grooming habits, though she does have a habit of rolling over on top of a kitten from time to time.
We won't know their genders until they're a bit older and Billie trusts us to handle them, but this certainly makes us better understand her behavior. We now know why she's been so defensive, why she wanted nothing to do with our other cats, Cagney and Sassy, and why she was so insistent upon getting into the closet in my home office where she's been in isolation over the past few weeks.
PJ's calling our vet this morning to get a bit of guidance on caring for the kittens and to let him know that he apparently missed a couple of things during his examination of Billie a few weeks ago.
Once she's weaned the kittens, we'll take Billie in to be spayed and we'll take the kittens in to be checked out by our vet who will, I'm sure, be a bit surprised to have two new little patients.
In the meantime, please enjoy one of the first photos of the new mom and her kittens taken this morning. The kids are a little difficult to make out as they look more like tribbles than kittens at this point, but one is nursing and the other is behind Billie's head.
At this point, we intend to keep the kittens which is going to prove quite interesting, I'm sure. We'll keep you posted on their progress.
