If it Rains, it Reigns

You're familiar with the news producer's mantra if it bleeds, it leads, right? Well, around Phoenix they use that unless it rains. Then, it's if it rains, it reigns.
I've never seen this phenomenon anywhere else, but I've also lived here for 20 years and TV news reporting has changed a lot in that time.
It's annoying and ridiculous, and even the news/talk radio stations fall victim to it.
I can understand if reporters are telling us about power outages, storm damage, tips to keep people safe, localized flooding, etc., but enough is enough! It's raining. We get it! Did the rest of the world stop to watch our rainfall? Isn't there anything else going on in the world worth reporting?
After a while, I find myself harkening back to SNL's early days. I can hear Chevy Chase clearly...
"Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still valiantly holding on in his fight to remain dead."
